Bryan Fuller: What’s great about Hugh is he has an inviting face. So when a cute guy goes crazy you’re like “ohmygosh that poor man!”  So we definitely wanted to have a face that would welcome the audience along the journey, because he really tucked us all under his arm and braved the path of insanity. In a way that made it relatable in a strange sense. 

 People I talk to are like “Augh, poor Will Graham! That poor man! Hannibal’s so mean!” Hannibal is actually performing a radically unorthodox form of therapy, that in his mind is helping Will Graham to be truer to himself. So it’s fun to see the reactions to how cruel Hannibal is being to poor Will Graham, who is this sweet faced man who loves dogs and has this intense likability to him.
